I'm feeling a little better today. A little less....unglued. A little more together. A little less unhinged.
(Work and all of the guys I work with may put me in the looney bin, but that's another story. I got through the day without strangling anyone, and for that I deserve a big bonus!)
I've decided I just have to go about my life like normal. And then, when (not if, when) we do get pregnant, then I'll make adjustments.
That being said, I think I'm 90% talked into running the mini again next year. Columbus or Indy, I don't know yet, but it was a nice goal to work towards the first time, and this second time, I'd love to run it faster than I did last time. I'd LOVE to run it in about 2:10 (a steady 10 minute pace), but anything under 2:30 I'd be thrilled with. We'll see.
A guy from work also brought me the Insanity dvd's. I've heard a few people that have had great results from it, and it would be something else to a) get myself into shape and b) feel better about myself and c) get my mind off of everything. It's supposed to be pretty intense, but I need a good challenge.
I ALSO think I may start selling Scentsy soon. Don't know what Scentsy is? You will soon! :) I LOVE their stuff and, unlike 31, hasn't really taken off here yet (ie, everyone and their mom isn't selling it yet). Also unlike 31, people can run out of products, so the opportunities for selling are a lot higher. Maybe. I haven't quite decided, but I'm leaning towards it.
...."hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies."

Holy October Batman
Its been awhile (almost 4 weeks, are you serious?!) since I wrote last. In a nutshell, the last month of my life:
Ran a 5K on 10/8 almost 6 minutes slower than the same race last year. Disgusted by it, I've tried to not think about it really since then, but it sickens me how just this side of 5.5 months ago I ran almost 4.5x that distance. Lame. Have. Got. To. Get. Back. To. Running. Or the gym. Or ANYTHING....
Friends Blake & Katie cancelled on us for this weekend on Tuesday which sucked, but turned out to be a good thing b/c our landlord called Wednesday night and we get to get into our house TOMORROW and not be charged until the end of the month as previously agreed!! So....the last 2 nights have been busy and frantic packing nights but at least we're getting it out of the way instead of letting it hang over our heads for 2 more weeks. PLUS, with Chris' fam coming over next weekend, they'll be able to see the new place! Have I mentioned how STOKED I am that tonight will be the last night EVER (I pray) to ever sleep in an apartment? Whether or not we stay in this house after our 2-year-lease-with-option-to-buy-anytime ends is obviously still up in the air, but I can't WAIT to be in a house, with a yard, and a garage, and 3 bedrooms.....
Why 3 bedrooms? Hopefully Baby King will make its pending arrival known sooner rather than later! Pray for baby dust. :)
Another good thing about the house? It's literally 2.0 miles down the road from my work. I GPS'd it. 2.0 miles. No more 35/ 40 minutes to go 15 miles at 6:30am. STOKED.
Cowboys had a bye last week and while it couldn't have come at a better time to get the team healthy, it means I've had to chew on the loss to the Lions for 12 days now. Who blows a TWENTY FOUR POINT LEAD to end up losing? Oh, no other team than Dallas, that's for damn sure.
So tonight it's more frantic packing and tomorrow moving all our big stuff and most of our little stuff, and then we'll have 2 weeks to get everything wrapped up at the old place. Just ready to be SETTLED!!
Oh, and who can believe Thanksgiving is a mere 41 days away, and Christmas just 72 away??!?! Seriously......how is it the middle of October already?

Mini Marathon - The Aftermath
I'm still alive.
Yeah, this doesn't sound like such a good deal, but there were a couple of minor negotiations with God during that 2 hours and 53 minutes and 5 seconds of my life Saturday morning.
"Dear God, please get me to the finish line in under 2:45. Okay....dear God, please get me to the finish line with no broken bones or fractures or sprains. Okay....dear God, please just get me to the finish line."
I kid.
A little.
The last 2 miles actually weren't the hardest. They were actually between about 7.5 and 11.
Very tough mental struggle, and conversations with myself (not out loud. Okay, well, maybe).
It had started misting when my little running group and I were about halfway around the track....then turned into a light rain....then steady rain. By that point, I was tired. My legs were cramping something fierce. I was wet. And cold. And tired.
Then, I finally hit mile 11. Okay. 11. 2.1 miles. That's a normal run around my neighborhood. Go!
And go, I did. Well, kind of. My last 2 miles were the slowest, probably (I haven't really checked) and had the highest ratio of "walk" in my "run/ walk" routine. But I made it. Chris, his mom & his sister were all at the 13 mile mark cheering me on. And I crossed the finish line, just a little past my 2:45 goal.
I rested awhile. Cheered my mom across (just 26 minutes after me!), and we walked back to the car. Well, everyone else did. I kind of hobbled, as the fronts of my hip muscles felt like they were rapidly disintegrating. Chris, mom & I had a quick lunch at Applebees, we drove home, and Mom & I proceeded to do pretty much nothing for the rest of the night (outside of showers and a quick dinner).
I woke up yesterday not feeling too bad except for my knees...and the rest of my body was pretty stiff, but moving. My knees are feeling a little better today so I'm not really worried, but I will definitely be investing in some knee compressions for my next race.
Overall - would I do it again?
Definitely. Can't get a high like that anywhere else. :)

OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini Marathon....
DONE!
I can now go ahead and cross a very big goal off my "bucket" list :)
What a great day and great experience.
Only complaints? The sort of misty/ light/ steady rainfall from about mile 7.5 to about mile 10 was a little miserable.....and after the race was over and we all met up, my muscles/ joints had had a chance to settle down a bit and I literally kind of hobbled to the car. I never realized how much the muscle at the front of your hips works to move each leg forward! : ) Fortunately, I drank a Gatorade Recovery drink, along with some chocolate milk and lots of water after ... along with some advil - and besides some sore knees (and being realllllllly tired....finally fell asleep around 11:30....tossed and turned until about 4:30 and kind of just dozed until 5:30), I feel fantastic.
I wanted to finish in 2:45....I finished in 2:53. I will take it!
Gotta say - pretty proud of myself. I may have been way back from first place (who, by the way, won it in 1:03....yup....ONE hour THREE minutes.......we figured out he was running at a less-than-5-minutes-per-mile....for AN HOUR), but I wasn't last, I didn't get hurt, and I got to do it with my mom.
Success!

Mini = 77 days away
January was a strong month for me. I didn't get 40 miles in as planned/ "resolved"....but I did get in about 25. I didn't beat myself over it, I was able to stick to my training schedule to a T. My viral/ bronchitis/ sinus/ CRAP hit about 3 weeks ago, though, and I was only able to run ONCE in that time......a whopping 1.5 miles this past Monday.
I vowed to myself to get back on track this week as the weather got nicer, and I did. Yesterday, my schedule called for a day of cross training and I was finally able to do my NYC Ballet video I ordered a couple weeks ago. IT. WAS. HARD. I had forgotten how strong I used to be when I danced!! Today, the schedule called for 50 minutes of running or 4 miles. I was a little wary, but I was determined to finish, and I did! In just under 47 minutes, which definitely is NOT going to break any speed records, but for basically being on hiatus for 3 weeks, I feel pretty good about it. One thing I really found out is that it's not my endurance that needs work - it's my leg strength. I need to figure out how to get some weight-bearing exercise in over the next 11 weeks so my legs (hips especially) gain strength and I don't end up crawling to the finish line on May 7!
At least the weather is getting nicer - I ADORE running outside in only 2 layers instead of 5! :)

EOY, Chris @ Work, Football!
What a week!
This past week was a killer. 2010 is almost officially, completely put away and the books closed....but man oh man what a process! I felt much more in control this year end than in the last 2, which was great. I felt like I had a very methodical process to getting everything done, and outside of leaving my AP pak on my desk Friday (when it should be well on its way to Longhorne, PA via UPS), it was a great week. I said "no" to lots of people this week that asked for my help - which doesn't feel that great at the time, but at the end of the day, I need to make sure my core tasks are being completed and all of the little extra tasks I take on each day make that really difficult.
Chris got some great news this morning! He got what came out to be a 13% raise in October (at his 90 day review), which was amazing in itself (not because he didn't deserve it, but b/c you just don't hear of those numbers in raises anymore) - but today he was informed he got ANOTHER raise for 2011 which was about another 4% increase. Hes been working really hard and some really long hours, and it is really paying off. The other Ops Manager stepped down/ was demoted, so Chris is pretty much on his own with what the two of them managed, and the owners of the company have really shown they trust him....the nice thing is that they are backing it up! Plus, he was informed today that he'll now be receiving a monthly insurance stipend since his company doesn't provide any health/ dental/ vision insurance. We figured it would be pretty small, but it's fairly sizeable AND not taxed. Since Chris is covered under my insurance, that money will come in major handy!
Wild Card weekend is half over, and although my Cowboys aren't in it, I'm still a football fan and am sad that there are now just 9 games left of the season :( Seahawks pulled off the major upset today against the Saints (thought there was no way in HELL that would happen, but any given Sunday....or Saturday! I guess). Colts also got beat at home, which as you all know, makes me gleeful. Just as gleeful as it makes everyone that Dallas did so poorly this year, so I don't feel bad. Tomorrow's picks: Baltimore over KC / Green Bay over Philly (I hope!)
This week really was a good one. I only got 5 miles in between last Sunday and today, but for the crazy week at work that was this week, I don't feel TOO awful about it....but it is time to get focused! Mini is a mere 17 weeks from today - 119 days! Time to get my butt in gear :)

Operation 13.1
May 7, 2011. Goal: Complete the Indianapolis Mini Marathon in (around) 2 hours.
180 days away.
Just under 26 weeks.
I haven't really been in any kind of running regimen since (gulp) before vacation. I've ran since then, of course, but not on any kind of schedule.
That changes now.
At the suggestion of one of my sorority sisters who recently ran her first mini ever, I have printed off and dedicated myself to a "novice" running program to get me ready for a race like this......it's a 12 week program so I think I'm going to double it up to help me ease into it. In the 2 weeks before I start that, I've looked up some various interval training material to get me back into a groove to where I can get used to running again.
I really do enjoy running. Of course, starting it back up after being out it is never fun, but when I ran 5 miles for the first time ever this summer, I felt invincible. Strong. Fit. It's also a good time to just turn up some good, loud music and let my mind just clear itself out. The cold weather we're starting to experience is tough to run in, but I'd rather the cold anyday over the sweltering heat and humidity of this past summer! But - if I can get through 3, 4 & 5 mile runs in 95* heat with 90% humidity - I think I can handle a little chilly weather (especially since I started running in that last year).
So, Indy Mini - here we come! (My mom has already signed up to walk it - it will be her 3rd Mini!) Wish us luck :)

It's Fall Y'all
What a dumb title. I suck at coming up with creative titles to these things.
What a great weekend. I left work early on Friday to make it to Terre Haute by about 6:30. My mom, at my request, made homemade meatloaf, mashed potatoes and meatloaf gravy. SO good. Chris won't let me make him meatloaf, and even if he did, it wouldn't be as good as Mom's. After dinner, my dad & I went to The Terminal (a sports bar on ISU's campus) to drown our sorrows over the Cowboys. We ended up talking to the producers of the ESPN radio station in Terre Haute who recruited my dad to be a weekly local caller. It was really funny! He just knows so much about so many sports that he's fun to talk to (as long as you're a fan of his teams....the Cowboys ((duh)), St. Louis Cardinals, LA Lakers and #48 Jimmie Johnson ((he got started on that from Anthony))). We played a little pool and hung out, and it was cool. The guys he was talking to thought it was cool he was having a drink with his daughter, and I did too ;-)
Saturday morning, I woke up at an ungodly hour for me (8:45) to run a 5K with my mom (who walked it). It was my first one ever, and it was COLD, but I did pretty well for the couple of decent hills and the temperature. I finished in 31:38 and in 3rd place in my age division! Mom finished 4th (really 3rd....the 1st place walker a lot of people think cheated.....and she left before awards even started.....I'm sorry, if you know you won, wouldn't you stick around? But she's a good sport and was proud of her 41:40 finish).
We went right home and changed, picked up Megan & headed to Bridgeton's Covered Bridge Festival. It was such a great afternoon. We shopped just about every stand and shop and got some great deals. I got started with Christmas shopping with my dad's gift and my white elephant gift for Chris' family, plus a couple little things for the house & myself. We walked alot, laughed a lot, and just enjoyed each other's company. It was so fun. That night, the 3 of us went to dinner while Anthony went to a girl's Sweet 16 party (He's a heartbreaker. Those poor girls. He's tall, he's funny, he always wears cologne & smells good, he wears nice clothes and is cute. All added up, girls just fall all over him) and Dad stayed at home to watch the race. Again....lots of laughs. I absolutely love my mom & sister. They are truly my best friends in this world, besides Chris. They know me better than almost anyone, they know how to make me laugh, they let me cry on their shoulders, and even after my worst mistakes, I know they're there.
Anyway. Yesterday wasn't as great as a day. I wanted to stay home an extra day but....couldn't. Had to come back. Ended up having to listen to the Cowboys game on AM radio which was just as well. They suck. Mike & Mike did a game this morning, "5 Words That Describe Your Team"....I came up with plenty (When is Jimmy coming back? Too many stupid unnecessary penalties. No reason to start celebrating. When will Wade be fired? Players not being held accountable). But somehow, people aren't writing them off yet. I wish I could just say to hell with it and not get worked up for next Monday night's game....but we all know that's impossible. Got to bed too late last night (damn my need to talk things out instead of just letting them rest with Chris) and went to work in a foul mood this morning.
But, as they say -
Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end.

Moles and miles
I suck at coming up with good "titles" for these things....and this one is especially awful. Sorry.... :)
So, the last week or so has been......rough. Some personal challenges Chris & I are trying to work through, and last week was definitely one of those where it was hard to be away from my mom and friends. Sometimes, having only Chris is hard.....and that in turn sometimes makes it hard to not kill him. (I joke!) But, in all seriousness, I really have to be thankful that we've overcome some of the obstacles that we have, when all we have here in Columbus is each other. Parents and friends and siblings are nowhere close enough to be able to "run" to, so we either talk it out or steam in silence 2 rooms away from each other. So.................anyway. Marriage is definitely a journey.............
Last Wednesday, I finally went to a dermatology appointment that I had put off twice. Calling me a chicken? You'd be right. I had 5 moles removed - 3 because I've hated them all my life, and 2 because the doctor was (slightly) suspicious of them. The 3 that I wanted gone he just "shaved" off (ew), but the 2 he wanted to do more research on, he "punched" out. It almost makes me gag to even think about it, so google it or something. But suffice it to say that both needed stitches, and I almost fainted while lying down. I got through it, by myself, even though I wanted my mom, and I go back to have stitches out tomorrow (the one at my hairline) and Monday (on my arm). Sick. Glad to have it over with. And is it bad that my boss needed a picture of me for a bio for a client....and I took a look at it.....and my first thought was, "DANG I need a tan!"???? Bad, bad, bad!
Today, I hit a new personal best - 3.03 miles in 29:40 minutes. First time I've ran 3 miles in under 30 minutes in a LONG time, and I'm really proud of myself. I didn't really run last week with all the bandages I was dealing with and the general pain in the ass they all were, so I think I'm going to fall a little short of my 30 miles ran by 1/30. I'm about 11 miles away, and I still have 4 days.............hmmmm. We'll see. But at any rate, I was pretty pleased with myself today :)
Well, tomorrow marks day 3 of month-end week, and it snowed today - so that's going to make the next 3 days crazy. I need a shower and bed, stat! (Thanks to a rerun of Grey's Anatomy I'm currently watching) :) :) :)
Good BYE, 2009!
Well, today officially wrapped up 2009. Our year-end/ December close was today, and I'm so relieved. Closes in general are stressful, but there is so much that has to be done and accounted for at year-end - on TOP of snow - that I'm glad, glad, glad it's over! Another branch's close took 5.5 hours yesterday, and ours lasted just under 3 hours. For all the hours everyone has worked lately, I'm so proud of the guys I work with, because they really do make my job easier (sometimes!)
So that was the good thing for today.
Monday - probably the only good thing was that it ended (ha). It was a crazy day at work (6+ hours of snow payroll), and cold, and just a MONDAY!
Yesterday - I hit a new "personal best" while running - 2.62 miles in 25 minutes. Not that great, but it was in the cold and sometimes snowy/ icy roads & sidewalks - but it felt good! It's actually getting easier to run outside as far as breathing goes. At first it felt like I was breathing in needles, but now it's getting better.
I'm off to bed....a little earlier tonight than normal. With the close today and the amount of hours I've been putting into work, I'm just worn out. Today was also one of those days.....hard, overwhelming, and having a generally negative attitude towards everyone and everything. Hopefully a good night's sleep will turn my demeanor around!

Happy girl
What a WEEKEND!
Obviously, the good thing that happened yesterday was the fact that my COWBOYS got their first playoff win in 13 years last night, and it was so exciting! Chris & I just ordered some wings and settled in to watch the game at home. It was scary at the beginning and I was afraid it was just going to be another wasted season, but we came out and won! There was definitely a lot of excitement in the King household last night, and it was also a lot of fun to text Anthony back and forth; it was the first playoff game of his lifetime! :)
Another good thing from yesterday was getting to sleep in (ahhhhh) and just recharge my batteries from last week's long hours and stress. I did have to go in for about 4.5 hours yesterday, but hopefully that makes for a normal (ha) 40-hour workweek this week. When I got home at 4:30, there was still too much time left until the game and I was antsy, so I bundled up, grabbed my iPod, and went for a quick run. It's really exciting to me how fast my endurance is building - both in leg strength and in breathing control. I felt really proud of myself that I went out and got a 2-mile run in when it was 12* outside :) On nikeplus.com, I've challenged myself to run 30 miles by 1/30, and I have about 22 to go....which isn't bad considering how much I worked last week!
Tomorrow brings another Monday and probably more snow, but hopefully this week will be smoother than last week. After working 4 days in 2 weeks, a 5-day workweek was hard enough without snow everyday AND fiscal year-end. We've all had a week to get back into it and this week should go a little smoother. I hope.
There isn't much point to this entry except for my concentration of looking for the good and happy things in life. They weren't hard to find this weekend!
PS - one last good thing from the weekend - we are going on vacation with Chris' family the first week of August this year to celebrate his mom's 50th birthday and his stepdad's 40th birthday - and they booked the house yesterday! It's a gorgeous, 5-bedroom house, right on the beach in Kill Devil Hills, NC (Outer Banks). A real vacation - can't come soon enough!

Run, Forrest, Run
I just had the BEST run of my life. Sometimes, I go run because I feel I have to. Sometimes, I go run off a really bad or stressful day. Today, I went and ran because I hadn't in awhile. And I was bored, and I knew I'd just sit and eat and eat and eat if I just sat til Chris got home. So, I used our apartment complex's gym for the first time in too long.
And it was GREAT.
I had a goal of running 15 miles/ week by my birthday, and it didn't happen. Closest I got was about 10. But I'm back on the train. Today was my first step back, and before I knew it, 25 minutes had gone by, and I was still going strong.
Thank you Bonnie Tyler for getting my ass in gear. Seriously, girls, "I Need A Hero" is the greatest running song ever.
Right next to "Bodies Hit The Floor," by System of a Down, "Ain't Goin' Down 'Til the Sun Comes Up" by Garth Brooks, and "Go Your Own Way" by Fleetwood Mac.
And you all thought YOUR musical tastes were varied :)
Have great days everyone. I'm off to enjoy my endorphin high!
PS...Thanksgiving updates later!
