I'm feeling a little better today. A little less....unglued. A little more together. A little less unhinged.
(Work and all of the guys I work with may put me in the looney bin, but that's another story. I got through the day without strangling anyone, and for that I deserve a big bonus!)
I've decided I just have to go about my life like normal. And then, when (not if, when) we do get pregnant, then I'll make adjustments.
That being said, I think I'm 90% talked into running the mini again next year. Columbus or Indy, I don't know yet, but it was a nice goal to work towards the first time, and this second time, I'd love to run it faster than I did last time. I'd LOVE to run it in about 2:10 (a steady 10 minute pace), but anything under 2:30 I'd be thrilled with. We'll see.
A guy from work also brought me the Insanity dvd's. I've heard a few people that have had great results from it, and it would be something else to a) get myself into shape and b) feel better about myself and c) get my mind off of everything. It's supposed to be pretty intense, but I need a good challenge.
I ALSO think I may start selling Scentsy soon. Don't know what Scentsy is? You will soon! :) I LOVE their stuff and, unlike 31, hasn't really taken off here yet (ie, everyone and their mom isn't selling it yet). Also unlike 31, people can run out of products, so the opportunities for selling are a lot higher. Maybe. I haven't quite decided, but I'm leaning towards it.

Some People Change
Something has changed, and recently. I can't really put my finger on it....there has been no "ah-ha!" moment in the last week or so, there hasn't been an incident that made me change my thinking......I don't know what it is. But....I'm just....happier. I don't know. I've not really been....down? lately, just the "same shit, different day" attitude. The same 'ole routine, day in and day out.
But now....something is different. I feel happier. I feel lighter. I feel....I don't know.
I guess the biggest thing is I'm just done with negativity. Done. Life is too short. Done with negative people, done with negative attitudes. I don't need that in my life. No one does.
Instead of being tired and grumpy in the morning, I'm taking on the attitude that at least I have a job, and I'm good at that job. Instead of being aggravated and impatient in line just now at the store b/c this little old man was taking FOREVER (and the fact he couldn't hear wasn't helping), I thought to myself....'that is someone's Dad. How will you want people to react when this is potentially YOUR dad in 30 or 40 years?'. Instead of scowling back at the McDonald's drive through girl this morning, I wished her a nice day and drove off. Not meanly, not kill-her-with-kindness mentality, just, "have a good day!"
It's hard for me to think like that. Those of you who know me know I'm Ms. Guilty-til-they're-proven-innocent. I think people as a general population are slow, lazy & generally useless. But you know what? I can't control everyone. I can't make everyone like me. This new attitude may not be so easy sometime down the road, and that's okay. But I'm trying. I'm making the effort.
No more negativity. No more feeding OFF of negativity, which is my biggest struggle. Have something mean to say about someone else? Go talk to someone else. Want to complain to me about your day? What are you doing to change it? Want to whine about how unfair a, b, c is? Well, life isn't always fair.
This is the new me, and it feels good.

Friday Brain Dump, Vol 2.1
I forgot to mention a couple things last night!
6. I tried that new gym last Saturday. Loved it. A little bit of a hike from my house (about 8 miles but with traffic takes a good 20ish minutes.....if I go from work it's a shorter drive), but totally worth it for all the machines (probably 30 universal machines, 15 treadmills, 5 or 6 stairmasters and then probably another 10 ellipticals) PLUS all the classes are included (pilates, yoga [I did this class on Monday for an hour and had before forgotten how difficult yoga is for such a slow moving activity - I quickly remembered!], iron yoga, SPINNING!, zumba, hip hop), PLUS a sauna..........all for $20/ month. Yup. $20.
7. The weather this week in Columbus has been ridiculously nice. This time last year we were in the middle of a 3-event week (2/2-2/4, 2/4-2/7, 2/7-2/9), taking us up through event 17, and to date we've only had TEN. Amazing, and I LOVE IT. It has been so nice, in fact, that Wednesday evening, I got home from work, changed into SHORTS & a TSHIRT and ran outside. On February 1. Amazing.
8. Thursday, I was finally able to put back on my "regular sized" pants and not feel like I was being suffocated. For a couple of months now I've been in that uncomfortable weight range of being too big for my "normal" (still too big for my liking) pants and having to move up to the NEXT size, which, although a little big, were my only option since my normal pants weren't fitting. No more. Now moving back in the right direction. I think having the plague last week helped (ha), but for the most part, the change is coming back from my eating habits. Not eating out breakfast & lunch, or eating a good breakfast but skipping lunch which caused me to eat the entire house upon coming home.........it's all about balance people.
9. Got the "save the date" for Chris and mine's TENTH HS REUNION on Tuesday. It's July 28. Chris insists we're not going; we'll see. If we don't go, does that make time start going SLOWER!?!?!?!?

2012!
Another year in the books. Unbelievable.
We rang in 2012 last night with pajamas, wings from a local joint, a couple Redbox movies, homemade pina coladas and near the end of the night, a good dose of Nyquil. I've been fighting what I thought at first was strep, then a sinus infection, to what I now know is just a full on nasty cold. It was bad enough that I worked one measly day last week....fortunately we were already off on Monday 12/26, and we were off Friday 12/30, but I was only able to work Tuesday. Wednesday and Thursday - there was no way. I think the worst is over but thankfully I have one more day to recover and get some things done around the house. This is where the best part of no Christmas decorations being put up comes into play - nothing to take down and clean up!
I checked out my "Happy 2011" post from last year, and just like my feelings this year, I made no "resolutions" last year, either....."Besides getting into a concrete schedule for the mini, the only other real goal I've made for myself is to cut out the gossip."
Well, I accomplished my one big goal for the year, which was to train for and complete my first mini-marathon in May. What a great feeling that was! Crossing that finish line, I felt like I could do anything. Well, anything that I could do from a horizontal position, with my legs elevated, for approximately 3 days. :) It was a fantastic feeling.
The gossip part is a little harder to pinpoint. I finally was able to transfer offices in the spring at work which helped. Us being cocooned over here in Columbus helped. I still think it's a worthwhile goal to work on, but this year I'm going to broaden it. Cut out the BS. At the age of 28 (holy crap, I'll be 30 *next* year!!!!), I still allow way too many little things to get to me. At work, at home, in my marriage, within my family, within our circles of friends. Enough. Cutting out the BS. That's my "goal" in 2012.
2011 is over. We celebrated our 3rd anniversary, and finally, I think, we are over the hump of the mistakes I made which left our marrage a minefield of hurt, distrust & anger. We started trying in earnest for a baby, and while no luck yet, I'm trying to relax about it and let God do His thing (me = control freak = hardest thing ever to give up control).
We watched the Packers win a Super Bowl in our beloved Cowboys' Stadium in February, but that was better than the Steelers winning. We anxiously awaited the end of the NFL lockout to then watch our Cowboys week in and week out, one heart attack after another, without fail (tonight may be the biggest heart attack yet; we'll see). We (okay, I) streamed the Royal Wedding back in April and let myself get completely wrapped up in the news and glitz and magic of the prince and his "commoner." I almost wrecked my car on an early May morning, listening to Mike & Mike, when they shared the commentary from a baseball game the night before when it was announced the US that "we got him." [Osama Bin Laden]. We watched the Cardinals (neither of us big baseball fans, but that's the team we both root for if we do watch) make a dramatic comeback and win the World Series in the 7th game.
We got caught up in the idea of building a house, then just buying a house, and settled just renting a house, but rest easy in our decision as we are finally out of apartments - and knowing what we need to do in the near future to be ready to actually buy (the biggest thing being: not chickening out!!) We welcomed a brother in law to the family in September. Before 2012 is over, we will probably be welcoming a new sister in law, a niece and two more nephews to the family as Chris' brother just brought up his girlfriend and her 3 kids from TX for good.
Who knows what else 2012 will bring? Our 10th HS Reunion will be this year - how is that possible???? Maybe a baby will come.......Chris will turn 28 in March, I'll turn 29 in November, and we'll celebrate 4 years of marriage in August. We have a couple of friends getting married, a couple of others already expecting babies in the early parts of the year. I truly hope in 2012 we can spend more time with friends & family......whether that be making a few more trips to IN, or arranging trips to meet halfway, or people coming to us.
Most of all - I wish us, and all of you out there - a most happy & peaceful New Year. May all year we all feel as optimistic as we all do today, as we look forward to a brand spankin' new 365 days. (No, wait - 366 this year!) Happy 2012!

Decisions
Yesterday, I made a decision. I decided I was TIRED of being back in my non-skinny-ish pants....I was TIRED of looking through last year's pictures and being disgusted with my current self b/c I KNOW what it takes....I was TIRED of just feeling like CRAP.
So, yesterday, I did 3 things. I got about 50 oz of water in (not 64, but a lot more than I've been drinking recently), I put my running shoes on and ran (jogged) for 2.03 miles (further than I've ran anytime in the last month, and it was slow, but I did it) and lastly, instead of a little ice cream after dinner, I had a yogurt. Today was more of the same....more water during the day and just finished a quick (1.5 miles, but more painful than yesterday) run.
Getting back to it isn't easy - it's HARD. But I didn't get back to my current self overnight, so fixing it isn't going to happen overnight, either.
There is no magic number on the scale. Not for me. Last year, I thought there was, but as I lingered around the 10-pounds-away mark, I felt GOOD. I didn't feel like I was depriving myself (WHAT?! Still able to eat Olive Garden!?!? Yes. It's true. But instead of 3 breadsticks, a salad [which, by the way, by the bowl - THREE HUNDRED CALORIES] and a full meal, I'd have ONE breadstick, a couple bites of salad, and HALF my dinner [I'd immediately ask for a to-go box and box half of my meal as soon as it came out b/c I tend to pick at food if it's in front of me]? McDonalds? SURE! But instead of a large Big Mac meal, I'd order a Happy Meal), I had the highest cardio endurance I could remember, and I wasn't disgusted with myself in pictures.
I want to get back to that place. The place where all of my currently-2-sizes-too-small pants are back on my shelf that's in reach. The place where I don't cringe at a picture of myself. The place where I just. feel. better. about. myself.
That's all. As it gets colder outside and darker earlier, it's going to be hard to keep myself motivated. But as Chris and I continue talking about and trying to start a family, I need to start taking better of myself.
Wait. Let me rephrase.
".....I WILL start taking better care of myself."
Period.

Pelatonia & New Kickoff Rule
Two very random thoughts.
1. My boss did his first ever Pelatonia ride this past week (102 miles!) to help raise money for cancer research at The James Hospital here in Columbus. He actually got to ride with The Limited Brands (they are a huge customer with two headquarter campuses here) and finished in just around 6 hours. Me, on the other hands - my legs would've fallen off. His sister is a photographer and put together a little slideshow which I thought was really neat. I told him I'm in next year! For some reason, 102 miles on a bike is a little easier to wrap my head around than a full 26.2 mile marathon. Who woulda thought?
2. The new kickoff rule in the NFL (kicking off from the 35 instead of the 30) is stupid. There goes another exciting part of football. On a good note, though, regular season starts in a mere 16 days! YEAH!!!!
That is all for now. Ready to get the rest of this week over with, then the hell that is month end next week over with......because the week after THAT, we have Labor Day off, work for two days, then off for 5 days straight - I am STOKED. We're going to Cincinatti (or maybe Indy.....undecided) for Wednesday/ Thursday.....then back in Terre Haute Friday - Sunday for my SIL's wedding, then off Monday because the Cowboys have their first Sunday nighter 9/11.
Yes, I'm that person who takes vacation days on the days after my team plays late nights. :)

Frustration
I'm frustrated. I'm frustrated and angry and annoyed with myself, and there's no one to blame BUT myself. Last March, I decided I had had it with my appearance. I started watching what I ate - still eating everything I wanted, but in smaller portions. I counted everything that went in my mouth - which was good b/c I love numbers (who knew?) and was able to make it a game everyday. I did really really well. I eventually got down to 8 pounds below my wedding day weight and only about 16 pounds from where I see my realistic goal weight being.
Enter vacation. Vacation was great. A whole week in the Outer Banks, and I had never felt better about myself in a two-piece.
Enter post-vacation. Holidays and cold weather came and I had nothing to hold myself accountable for.
Enter now.
All of that weight is back. It's back! I'm disgusted with myself. Disgusted. I know how to do it. I know how to control my portions. But yet everytime I have a meal I feel like I am seeing food for the last time. Why!? I've tried to get back on the wagon a few times in the last couple of months but I just fall right off.
What the f. Seriously.
Willpower. That's what it takes. There is no quick fix (contrary to some who think there is) - it is literally your calories IN MUST be LESS than your calories OUT. That's it. I proved it last year! My mom has proven it over the last 4 years.
So, no current solutions. Just annoyed and sad when every morning I look at all my pants and capris and shorts and know that I can't fit into half of them. Or 90% of them. I'm just in "that place" right now, and it sickens me. I need to get OUT.
Secondly, and I'm going here b/c this is where I get to use this as a true journal and not just a superficial place to skim over the tops of my thoughts, so read if you will. No judging allowed. Dipshit got married this weekend (last I heard). If I had to pinpoint a single feeling about it, I couldn't. I couldn't. It's like if you mix all the colors in the rainbow up, that's what I would be. Sad, happy, ecstatic, relieved, pissed off, annoyed, pensive, hopeful. Add all those up and that's how I feel about it. It has been over a 16 months since everything blew up and ended, and that is a GOOD thing. Seriously. A good thing. It's just - I don't know how to explain it in a public place like without sounding like an idiot or that I'm still pining for him - because I'm not. I guess I just wish him well, but at the same time I know that a relationship that was started on a lie (he divorced his first wife b/c of this girl....and we all know where that relationship has been since they've been together) can't and won't end well. So that's what all I'll say.
Anyway, my parents' 30th wedding anniversary was this weekend. That's how long Chris and I have been married so far.......times 10. *!!!!!!* My sister and I collaborated over the last month to throw them a surprise get together at a restaurant in Terre Haute and it turned out really well. Well, as good as a party can turn out with peach and yellow as its colors!! :)

:) People still tick me off with their complete lack of etiquette and literally nobody from my dad's step-family (who've been our "step family" for longer than I've been alive) showed up, let alone responded. Whatever.
Good thing that the people who came were all wonderful and I think my mom & dad were really pleased. Aren't they cute? Yes, we made them do a cake cutting ceremony :) Dad was less than thrilled, but Megan & I looked on like proud parents and took pictures!
Work is also frustrating right now, but fortunately I don't dread going in everyday like I did before - my boss is absolutely fantastic. It's just like it never ends. I get my arms around one thing and then another thing blows up. Tired. So, so tired.
Anyway. I've been a Negative Nancy lately. Sorry. I just need to get over myself and get on with it. There a lot of exciting things coming up soon and I want to enjoy them all!

Mini Marathon - The Aftermath
I'm still alive.
Yeah, this doesn't sound like such a good deal, but there were a couple of minor negotiations with God during that 2 hours and 53 minutes and 5 seconds of my life Saturday morning.
"Dear God, please get me to the finish line in under 2:45. Okay....dear God, please get me to the finish line with no broken bones or fractures or sprains. Okay....dear God, please just get me to the finish line."
I kid.
A little.
The last 2 miles actually weren't the hardest. They were actually between about 7.5 and 11.
Very tough mental struggle, and conversations with myself (not out loud. Okay, well, maybe).
It had started misting when my little running group and I were about halfway around the track....then turned into a light rain....then steady rain. By that point, I was tired. My legs were cramping something fierce. I was wet. And cold. And tired.
Then, I finally hit mile 11. Okay. 11. 2.1 miles. That's a normal run around my neighborhood. Go!
And go, I did. Well, kind of. My last 2 miles were the slowest, probably (I haven't really checked) and had the highest ratio of "walk" in my "run/ walk" routine. But I made it. Chris, his mom & his sister were all at the 13 mile mark cheering me on. And I crossed the finish line, just a little past my 2:45 goal.
I rested awhile. Cheered my mom across (just 26 minutes after me!), and we walked back to the car. Well, everyone else did. I kind of hobbled, as the fronts of my hip muscles felt like they were rapidly disintegrating. Chris, mom & I had a quick lunch at Applebees, we drove home, and Mom & I proceeded to do pretty much nothing for the rest of the night (outside of showers and a quick dinner).
I woke up yesterday not feeling too bad except for my knees...and the rest of my body was pretty stiff, but moving. My knees are feeling a little better today so I'm not really worried, but I will definitely be investing in some knee compressions for my next race.
Overall - would I do it again?
Definitely. Can't get a high like that anywhere else. :)

OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini Marathon....
DONE!
I can now go ahead and cross a very big goal off my "bucket" list :)
What a great day and great experience.
Only complaints? The sort of misty/ light/ steady rainfall from about mile 7.5 to about mile 10 was a little miserable.....and after the race was over and we all met up, my muscles/ joints had had a chance to settle down a bit and I literally kind of hobbled to the car. I never realized how much the muscle at the front of your hips works to move each leg forward! : ) Fortunately, I drank a Gatorade Recovery drink, along with some chocolate milk and lots of water after ... along with some advil - and besides some sore knees (and being realllllllly tired....finally fell asleep around 11:30....tossed and turned until about 4:30 and kind of just dozed until 5:30), I feel fantastic.
I wanted to finish in 2:45....I finished in 2:53. I will take it!
Gotta say - pretty proud of myself. I may have been way back from first place (who, by the way, won it in 1:03....yup....ONE hour THREE minutes.......we figured out he was running at a less-than-5-minutes-per-mile....for AN HOUR), but I wasn't last, I didn't get hurt, and I got to do it with my mom.
Success!

Mini = 77 days away
January was a strong month for me. I didn't get 40 miles in as planned/ "resolved"....but I did get in about 25. I didn't beat myself over it, I was able to stick to my training schedule to a T. My viral/ bronchitis/ sinus/ CRAP hit about 3 weeks ago, though, and I was only able to run ONCE in that time......a whopping 1.5 miles this past Monday.
I vowed to myself to get back on track this week as the weather got nicer, and I did. Yesterday, my schedule called for a day of cross training and I was finally able to do my NYC Ballet video I ordered a couple weeks ago. IT. WAS. HARD. I had forgotten how strong I used to be when I danced!! Today, the schedule called for 50 minutes of running or 4 miles. I was a little wary, but I was determined to finish, and I did! In just under 47 minutes, which definitely is NOT going to break any speed records, but for basically being on hiatus for 3 weeks, I feel pretty good about it. One thing I really found out is that it's not my endurance that needs work - it's my leg strength. I need to figure out how to get some weight-bearing exercise in over the next 11 weeks so my legs (hips especially) gain strength and I don't end up crawling to the finish line on May 7!
At least the weather is getting nicer - I ADORE running outside in only 2 layers instead of 5! :)

Life Cleanup
I am done with people whose only impact in my life is negative.
I feel that I hardly have the emotional backbone to deal with what comes my way on a day-to-day basis, let alone deal with the crap that people bring into it, frivolous or not. (That is not to say that I don't deal with my problems. I do. I just don't feel like I need to deal with everyone else's, too).
So today, I again went through my facebook "friends" list. No impact in my life in the last however-long-of-time? Gone. Generally annoy me with your consistent negativity? Gone.
As much fun as I used to get out of a good football argument, or the joy of feeling like I've helped someone through a tough situation - at some point, enough is enough. Regardless of what some may think, I DO know there is life outside of the Dallas Cowboys, and no matter how much I argue, there will always be someone out there that just wants to push my buttons and get me fired up. And there will always be those people out there whose life is just always miserable, no matter how good or bad they have it, no matter what I say, no matter what I do.
So another "resolution," if you will - staying focused on the positive. Not getting caught up in the day to day bullshit (gossip and petty arguments). And again.........living my life in such a way that makes people PROUD to say they know me, and makes me proud to look in the mirror at myself.

First Post of 2011
2011. I've now been alive to see the start of my 4th decade (80s, 90s, 00s and now the 10s). Crazy!
New Years Eve was pretty uneventful for us. We actually started dating on New Years Eve of 2002-2003, so we've now passed 8 years together. We had fun at dinner trying to think back all of our NYE's together:
02/03 - Days Inn in Terre Haute - ended up being me, Chris & his best friend (and best man in our wedding) Bill - pretty uneventful!
03/04 - a double date party with one of Chris' former friends, Joe, and his girlfriend....can't remember her name and Chris hasn't spoken to him in years due to a fairly major fallout some years back....
04/05 - if memory serves, there was a party at Sigma Chi that turned out to be pretty lame, so we came back to Bethel and hung out by ourselves.
05/06 - party at Chris' house on North Street + party at the AOII Calvert House
06/07 - another party at Chris' house on North Street....I think....
07/ 08 - Jazz Kitchen in Indy with Chris' Sigma Chi friends and their g/fs and wives
08/09 - our first married NYE, in Cincinnati.....dinner at the top of the rotating restaurant with the same group from 07-08
09/10 - NYE in Columbus! Sigma Chi group convened here for a Blue Jackets game, dinner @ Boston's and some minor hoopla in a downtown hotel
This year was a little different - we had friends with a 4-week old baby, so they were out - another couple due in 3 months, so they were out - which left 3 (couples) of us. Plans went back and forth for weeks, but Chris had to work until 1 on Friday and it just wasn't going to be conducive for us to go anywhere. So, we got dressed up and braved Cheesecake at 7pm....I was fully expecting to have to wait for 2 hours, but we were in within 45 minutes. We enjoyed a yummy dinner and then tagged along with some friends to a party. We ended up leaving at 11 to come home, watched the ball drop with some champagne drank from our wedding flutes and being in bed shortly after. It was kind of nice to ring in the new year, just the two of us.
I've had 3 pretty "easy" weeks at work, as far as actual working days go - a 4 day week, then a 2.5 day week, and a 3-day week last week......so a full 5-day week this week is going to be killer.....not to mention that it's my end of month/ end of year, so it's going to be a busy one.
I did get back on track today with my mini training - 2.25 miles, outside - in about 22 minutes. It was COLD and WINDY today, so it was a hard run, and my new running gloves basically left me with frostbitten fingertips, but I got through it. Come February I'll be on an actual mini-training schedule, but until then I'm giving myself a little flexibility with distances and days ran to get myself back into it. I'm giving myself a goal of 10 miles/ week between now and 1/31, which I think is very doable.
Besides getting into a concrete schedule for the mini, the only other real goal I've made for myself is to cut out the gossip. At work, with people I know, with friends. I recently read an article in Cosmo....Glamour, maybe? talking about gossip, how easily it spreads, how nasty it can get - and an easy way to stop yourself from being a target (outside of not doing anything "gossip-worthy") is to not be a hub for gossip yourself. It's a hard goal, and I know it. But there's a quote out there..........another one to live by besides my one yesterday:
"Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people."
I also think this will help me with last year's goal of not living my life for other people....maybe if I quit being so concerned about everyone else, everyone else won't be so concerned about me and what I'm doing in MY life. It's an egocentric thought, I know - no one's world revolves around me. But the more I can just go about my business, with my loved ones, without the drama - the better.
Oh, and the Cowboys finished their dismal season at 6-10 with a just barely win over Philly today (their 2nd stringers, nonetheless), which is their worst in over 5 years....I'm already itching for next season....if there is one.
Happy 2011!!!!

2010 Resolutions: A Review
Well, friends, how did you do with last year's "resolutions"??
I say this with a little (okay maybe more than a little) sarcasm, because I buy so little into "New Years Resolutions." All week on facebook, and especially today, it's just so.......amusing? Annoying? Enlightening? ...to read what people say they WILL do.....starting tomorrow. What makes 1/1 so earth-shattering anyway? If you really want to stop eating all junk food, no more crap! no more fast food!, why wait til tomorrow? Just start today....it's not like that that resolution will actually hold up for more than a week. Can people do it? Sure. But all the people I know are just regular people looking for a healthier life.......and depriving yourself ALL the time of things you like just isn't healthy! But anyway. Ready to get the next 2 weeks over with so the gym will be back to normal (I've been running inside lately - except for today, it has been TOO wet and snowy outside to run outdoors!!)
So, a look back at my "goals" from last year, written on 1/5/10........
1. Improve my relationship with God: I'd say that I haven't accomplished this as much as I wanted to, but on a big upside, when I've made the effort, Chris has been in on the act, too. We've attended church together this year, and that's huge. It seems every single week this year brought new challenges and heartache, but the constant reminder to myself to "give it to God" has been a big comfort. This goal is ongoing and something I look forward to improving upon again this year.
2. Say "no" more often: at work, this definitely was accomplished! I have set some strict boundaries at work and am reaping the benefits of doing so. My boss respects me more, as do my coworkers. I probably still say "yes" more often than necessary, but who knew that saying "no" could be so gratifying?
3. Live my life for me.......another goal that is hard to put into black and white, but still one that I don't think I quite accomplished. I still think that, even at 27, I put too much stock into how others perceive me. It bothers me when I feel judged, and it bothers me when I think people are mad at me. This is probably something that won't ever change, but my need to please other people has slowed down some.........and I need to live by a good motto: "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind."
4. Run a mini-marathon: well, this didn't happen in 2010. But, I made some huge strides, hitting my longest run (6 miles) during the summer, and increasing my speed and endurance. Plus, I actually SIGNED UP for a mini in May of 2011, so it is something I definitely will achieve this year! 18 weeks, 1 day and counting! The training has already begun!
5. Write down one good thing everyday........definitely didn't write down something everyday.......but the overall goal of looking for the positive helped this year. There were some times that looking for the good things was the ONLY thing that kept me from getting too wrapped up in the bad & ugly. So.......another one to continue work on this year.
So, that's how I did. I've been thinking about some concrete, black & white goals to work towards in 2011, and I'll be putting pen to paper (or fingers to keys) in the next couple of days.
I hope everyone has a safe and fun New Year's tonight! It'll be the first one in a long time that we'll be by ourselves.........may be the first, if I think about it!
So long, 2010!

Operation 13.1
May 7, 2011. Goal: Complete the Indianapolis Mini Marathon in (around) 2 hours.
180 days away.
Just under 26 weeks.
I haven't really been in any kind of running regimen since (gulp) before vacation. I've ran since then, of course, but not on any kind of schedule.
That changes now.
At the suggestion of one of my sorority sisters who recently ran her first mini ever, I have printed off and dedicated myself to a "novice" running program to get me ready for a race like this......it's a 12 week program so I think I'm going to double it up to help me ease into it. In the 2 weeks before I start that, I've looked up some various interval training material to get me back into a groove to where I can get used to running again.
I really do enjoy running. Of course, starting it back up after being out it is never fun, but when I ran 5 miles for the first time ever this summer, I felt invincible. Strong. Fit. It's also a good time to just turn up some good, loud music and let my mind just clear itself out. The cold weather we're starting to experience is tough to run in, but I'd rather the cold anyday over the sweltering heat and humidity of this past summer! But - if I can get through 3, 4 & 5 mile runs in 95* heat with 90% humidity - I think I can handle a little chilly weather (especially since I started running in that last year).
So, Indy Mini - here we come! (My mom has already signed up to walk it - it will be her 3rd Mini!) Wish us luck :)

Happy "twenty-oh-ten"!
LOL.
I listen to Mike & Mike almost every morning, and this morning they were discussing the difference between saying "twenty-oh-ten" and "twenty-ten." Sometimes I listen to them more for the entertainment value (ie, Mike Golic promising to leave the show forever if Greenie got something right; Greenie responded it would take two people to fill Golic's chair) than the sports value, but nevertheless, I get a kick out of them everyday.
Anyway. Happy 2010! Happy new decade! Like a lot of people, I get a little (overly?) nostalgic right around New Year's....thinking a lot about the past year - the mistakes, the triumphs, the lessons learned (some harder than others), and looking forward to the new year. This year wasn't much different, but life moves on after January 1.
We had a great New Year's Eve. The last 2 years, we've spent in other cities, dressing up, spending way too much money....having a good time, but still....too much it felt like sometimes. This year, 4 of Chris' fraternity brothers (3 of which were in our wedding; the other one probably would've been too had he not been overseas in the Army) and their wives (and, well, one girlfriend) came to Columbus, and we had a great, laid-back, HILARIOUS night. We went to a Columbus hockey game, had an informal dinner at Boston's, and then we all went back to Drury Inn (all 3 places within walking distance in downtown Cbus) where we rang in the New Year with some champagne in our pj's and Apples to Apples. It was a great time.

This is us @ Boston's - being good Buckeyes and sporting our OSU hoodies in honor of their Rose Bowl appearance on New Year's Day. They won!
NYE 2010 also marked our 7th "anniversary." We started dating on NYE 2003, so we've definitely come a long way since then :) We don't celebrate the day anymore, but it's cool to think about where we started and where we are now :)
As a rule, I don't make resolutions. Or goals, or promises to myself. Never really have. I usually take time to reflect on myself and what I would like to accomplish, but in general, I get fairly annoyed with people who announce these huge, great, wonderful goals and then 2 weeks in, are out of it (99% of them weight-loss related). So, I don't make announcements. I've seen firsthand that if you put your mind to something, you'll do it anytime of year (like my mom, who started Weight Watchers in September of '07 and has lost over 70 pounds to date!). But, for posterity's sake (I think that's the right word), here are some of my thoughts for the upcoming year.
1. Improve my relationship with God. And that means going back to church on a regular basis. Sleeping in and lazing around the house always sounds better than spending an hour in church, but I always feel....whole....after leaving church. Like I've just been home. It's definitely a part of me that needs awakened, and I'm anxious to get back to it.
2. Say "no" more often. This applies mostly to work, but to wherever it applies. I tend to wear myself out trying to make everyone happy, and that's never going to be possible. In fact, I put this into practice yesterday when someone at work asked me to put on a pot of coffee (what do I look like, your maid?), and I politely said, "Well, I have some here, but the coffee is in the cabinet if YOU'D like to make some!" Small example, but a lot of little things like that add up!
3. Live my life for me. Again, this has to do with the above - trying to make too many people happy. I'm still growing, I'm still learning, I'm still making mistakes. But I'm tired of losing sleep over the small, insignificant things that people might be thinking or saying about me and making decisions based on what people think. Chris and my marriage matter, my family matters, friends matter - but at the end of the day, it's me that has to live with my decisions.
4. Run a mini-marathon. This is one of those big "annoucement" type goals, but it's one I've been trying to get working towards for awhile now. I just got the Nike + iPod kits, and I'm obsessed with it. It tracks exactly what I'm doing online, and I LOVE seeing numbers and my progress. I believe the Cbus mini is in October, and I think it's a cool goal to work towards. I actually have run outside the last couple of days, and I kind of like it.
5. This last one is a little cheesy....but, it needs to be said. I tend to have a "guilty until proven innocent" personality, and that leaks over to the rest of my life.....only looking at and looking for the negative. While that may never change, I'm going to make an effort to, everyday, write down one GOOD thing that happened to me, or that I saw, or whatever. There are too many ugly and nasty things going on in this world, and I have so much to be thankful for.
So. Those are the big 5. Who knows what 2010 will bring? Or where I'll be this time in another 10 years? This time 10 years ago, I was 16 and a sophomore in high school. This last decade was sure full of a bunch of changes, and I'm excited to see where I'll be at (gulp) age 36. Kids....different job? New house? New hometown, different experiences?
Sit back and enjoy the ride, everyone :)
